The Lewiston Education Center recently formed its first-ever student council. Here are the council members' own thoughts about the formation.
For some of us, Student Council is just another experience. For some, it's a way to reach others. Yet again, some of us just enjoy taking pride in our school and helping others. But, all in all, we just want to show others that they can help themselves. No matter the reason, Student Council is a learning experience... something to bring us together and then keep us from falling apart as we have for so long.
When asked about what they enjoyed or why they were doing this, the answers varied by age and personality.
NCH student body president Cameron said, "student council is a chance for the NCH student body to speak up about their suggestions on how to make things better both at the Education Center and the campus." He also made mention that he was personally going to assure both the campus and Education Center that things would get better because we are planning fundraisers such as spring car washes, a cocoa and bake sale, a Halloween party and spirit week and a book drive.
Our student body vice president Ryan Richardson said, "student council is mostly about getting together and talking" and that he would like to see this school become a better place as well.
Jolyn, student body secretary, said that she enjoys taking pride in the school she attends and would like to be able to see it only grow and get better in everything it has to offer. The school has changed her life and now she wants to repay it, the staff and the students for all they've done.
Other members such as AJ, Ethan, Stephen, Helen and Quentin made it clear that they would like to be a part of a bigger change as well.
