The event began on Friday, June 11th, with the Syringa Girls leaning how to play tennis with teaching pro, Theresa Madson. Then that evening 12 teams of 10 players - 5 men and 5 women started the tournament to raise money for Syringa House. Thank you to team captains: Steve Flora, Ed & Vickie Henderson, Jim Gruber, Jenny Grunke, Terry Hardy, Nan Jacobsen, Holly Johnson, Don Miller, Monica Opp. Kirk Porritt, Julene Reed, and Renea Ridgeway and to Rod Hunt, Tournament Director, and Rachel Allen, Tournament Assistant. The event ended on Sunday afternoon with Steve Flora's team finishing 1st, Kirk Porritt 2nd, Jim Gruber 3rd, and Jenny Grunke 4th.
Many thanks go to James, Angie, and Jess Harrison for overseeing the complimentary BBQ on Saturday evening. They also donated the salmon, and Sysco Food Services of Idaho donated the steak, chicken, pasta and potato salad. Applebee's donated the green salad; Chef Carol of Syringa House donated the cupcakes, and Gayle Wood donated the brownies. Idaho Distributing donated 2 cases of wine and the Protein Water for the event as well as discounted beer. We appreciate these supporters.
Also, Matthew Warren, Executive Director of Idaho Tennis Association supplied the tennis balls, and Bill McGrath, General Manager of Boise Racquet & Swim Club donated the court time for this event. This year, we were able to give prizes, and Nancy Edwards-Wong asked Wong Farms to provide four $25 gift cards to Baja Fresh for the top four finishing team captains. Julianne Haller - owner of Dime a Daisy, Geneva Wyett of Bronco Motors, Jennifer Deroin of Intermountain Community Bank, Lynn Sander of Home Federal Bank, Lynne Caba of Mountain West Bank, and Jane Pavek of Wells Fargo all contributed prizes for top four finishing teams.
