NCH provides education services to youth in the LC Valley and surrounding areas, as well as our residential youth.
The Education Department provides a small structured setting for youth to learn and build new skills. Our staff use Trauma Informed techniques to support students with the goal of transitioning them into a less restrictive educational environment.
Another focus is to provide education in both independent living and vocational skills. Our teachers work diligently to ensure that our 12th grade students are on track to graduate successfully.

The students who attend school on the residential campus are placed in one of two classes, Vision or Quest classroom.
These classes provide a 4:1 ratio including a teacher and classroom aides. Residential students have the opportunity to apply to attend the Education Center if they meet qualification and are approved by the education and treatment teams.

The students who attend the Education Center are placed in the program utilizing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process through the local school districts. NCH contracts with the local school districts to provide education and special education services.
These students continue to be part of their home district. The Education Center is a K-12 school. The students are placed into one of four classes based on their grade level and special education needs: early elementary (1st–3rd), upper elementary (4th–7th ), junior high (7th–8th) or high school (9th–12th). These classes provide a 5:1 ratio including a teacher and classroom aides.

In 2017, the Lathen Vocational Program was dedicated in honor of Elisie and Clifford Lathan for their generous support to Northwest Children’s Home. Members of NCH leadership saw the benefit of offering youth the opportunity to learn trade skills that would last a lifetime and possibly lead to career advancement opportunities. Some of the vocational opportunities include but aren’t limited to: woodworking, auto-mechanics, carpentry and other technical skills.

Northwest Children's Home, Inc. Education Center participates in the National School Lunch Program Community Eligibility Provision. All youth will receive free meals, both breakfast and lunch, under this provision. The school MAY share your eligibility information with education, health, and nutrition programs to help them evaluate, fund, or determine benefits for their programs, auditors for program reviews, and law enforcement officials to help them look into violations of program rules.
