Building on Fitness provided us with safe gym equipment for our Fitness Center. This project included replacement of the building roof as well as the purchase and installation by staff of new flooring, aerobic equipment and weights, a monitor and sound system, yoga mats, and a water bottle filling station.

Futures Field: A Diamond in the Rough supports NCH in building a four season field on our main campus. This will allow us to significantly expand our outdoor recreational therapy and physical education programs.

Activities on Futures Field will be incorporated into individualized treatment plans as well as school curricula.

NCH youth are like all youth: exercise can relieve stress, release “feel good” endorphins, and consume pent up energy. But NCH youth are also different. Their adverse childhood experiences have resulted in poor self-esteem, limited physical skills, and fear of failure. Frustration with their environment can quickly escalate into dysregulated behavior and destroy their motivation to engage in recreational therapy.

Besides the primary therapeutic goal of expanding our outdoor recreational programming, the Field will also improve how residents, Education Center students, families, case managers, and community members perceive our campus and its services.
